We’ve always been big supporters of a greener and more sustainable future – looking for ways to increase community engagement and reconnect people to the natural world.

This past spring, we installed beehives on our rooftops to protect our vital bee population. Our beehives are home to thousands of bees from the Italian species Apis mellifera. Known for their calm and docile nature, these bees are ideal for urban beekeeping, and as a great education tool. The beehives have been given extra insulation and so they are ready to for the winter months.

The hives are under the care of our urban beekeepers who regularly check on them to ensure their welfare. The honey that was harvested was distributed to our tenants as well as used to support the community.

We also launched Project Butterfly distributing hundreds of butterfly caterpillar kits to support local schools, daycares and scouting groups. As a result, over 4,000 Painted Lady Butterflies were released into the world.
